Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week’s comes from The American Heiress by Daisy Goodwin. (One of my favorite book covers of all time)

“Cora stood like a pistachio ice melting in her mint frills and Brussels lace. She has spent the last three days imagining the moment when she would reveal herself in her full splendour to the Duke. She was expecting that look in his eyes that she had seen so many times before in other people, the look that meant they were not seeing her but all that she represented, the marble palaces, the yachts, the gilded hummingbirds.”

This is from an Advanced Reader Edition I received from St. Martin’s Press ages ago and I’m finally getting around to reading. The only thing stopping my from kicking myself for not having read it sooner is it’s helping with my Downton withdrawal.
