Wondrous Words Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Kathy @ Bermudaonion weblog where we share new (to us) words that we’ve encountered in our reading.  If you want to play along, grab the button, and join the fun!  (Don’t forget to leave a link in the comments if you’re participating.)

This week’s words come from The Shoemaker’s Wife by Adriana Trigiani.

Fredo Caldo — “Those fredo caldo days only lasted until Easter, and Enza took full advantage of them.”

According to Babylon fredo caldo literally translates to Hot Refrigereted. Since this takes place in Springin the mountains, I’m guessing it means that time in Spring when the sun is hot but the weather is cool.

Spruzzo — “‘Hey!” Ciro stood, wiping his face with his sleeve, “No, spruzzo!'”

Spruzzo means splash or spritz.
